Camping--Take Two

One of our adventures during our camping trip led us to this beautiful place. This is called Grass Lake and it is located in the hills above Bishop. Jerry read in a guide book that it was an "easy hike that climbed 300 feet in elevation". I wouldn't exactly call this "easy" and it climbed more like 900 feet in elevation. I'm not exaggerating here. Our friends, Kasey and Jimmy, along with their one year old Riley joined us for this hike. Jimmy took his phone which mapped out the coordinates. We started off at 9100 feet and ended up around 9975 feet. All in all, it was worth it though. C'mon, this is gorgeous. Don't you think? The guys fished while the ladies and kids played. I'd say the mosquitoes were the worst here but most of us got out without any bites.

This is Rock Creek and was also our backyard for the week. We heard the creek running all throughout the day and night. Jerry spent a lot of time out here fishing and Grayson loved wading in the freezing water. He would go running straight for it. We also sat out here at night and watched shooting stars.

We rode the gondolas to the top of Mammoth Mountain. Here is a view from the top. Pictures don't do it justice.

Across the road (past Tom's Place) is Rock Creek Lake. We hung out here one afternoon. Jerry taught Grayson to throw rocks in the water. Now, whenever we see any body of water, Grayson wants to throw rocks in it--even backyard swimming pools.

Grayson played hard and ate hard while we were camping. Above is breakfast the first morning we were there. To the left is Grayson after spaghetti night. He enjoyed it. Can't you tell?
Although it was a long drive (9 hours including the stops), it was worth it. Grayson was as good as we could have hoped he would be. He got a little fussy before he fell asleep, but other than that he was great. We're already planning our next trip back.

  2. Now that Larry knows you guys took Grayson camping, he thinks now there is no excuse to not take Emma. Looks like you guys had fun! =)

  3. Okay...I think Grass Lake is the hike that Geoff and I did when we camped there. It was brutal for me too. I ate like the entire backpack full of food & we weren't even halfway there.
